DBT Skills Group is an ESSENTIAL ELEMENT of any DBT Program. Gold Standard DBT - with Individual DBT Therapy, Phone Coaching, Consultation and DBT Skills Group -  is the MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD for reducing Suicide Attempts and Ideation, Non-Suicidal Self-Injury, and for improvement in Depression, Anxiety and the Capacity to Control Anger. Studies show, however, that DBT Skills Group, added to ANY individual therapy, leads to better outcomes than 1:1 therapy alone.

DBT Skills Group works!  Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills are taught in a FUN, VALIDATING and UNDERSTANDABLE way. Group members tell us they come because they feel accepted by people they can relate to, and as a result they are more likely to learn the skills, more likely to practice the skills and more likely to use the skills “in the moment” when they are needed.

DBT Skills Group is NOT a group where members are expected to disclose personal information or a place to discuss or glorify harmful behaviors. It is a safe place for all to learn and support each other in the quest to “build a life worth living”.

Parents – your Teen or Adult Child will appreciate your commitment to their wellness! The same is true for Spouses and Affected Others. Family Members come to our DBT Program sad, afraid and frustrated. Our Parent/Affected Others Group is a place where they can separately learn DBT skills - the same skills that their loved ones are learning - customized for their needs. “Talking the same talk” encourages skill use at home. In DBT Group, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills are taught in a safe and understandable way. Parents/Affected Others learn tangible ways to support their loved ones, and themselves practice DBT skills “in the moment,” so as not to make high-risk behaviors worse.

DBT Skills Group is NOT a group where Teens/Adult clients discuss or glorify harmful behaviors - or a place where families are expected to disclose personal information. It is a safe place for all to learn and support each other in the quest to “build a life worth living”.

Teens

DBT Skills Group works better than individual therapy alone. Teen DBT Group it is a FUN, VALIDATING and SAFE place to be yourself. Many Teens report that attending DBT Group is their favorite part of the week!

Teen DBT Group members attend because they feel “accepted” by Leaders and Peers, and as a result they are more likely to learn the skills they need to manage their emotions and urges, more likely to practice the skills, and more likely to use the skills “in the moment” when they are needed.

We get that you may not want to join a new Group. It is normal to feel scared and awkward at first – maybe even the first couple of Groups - but our Teens report that they appreciate this time to relate to others who understand - and they like that their Parents/Caregivers are learning the same skills.
